The American Secretary of State has at long last made his journey to Beijing. Expectations are low. But ‘deliverables’ aren’t the point right now. It’s all about symbolism.

Most of us remember Andrei Gromyko’s famous journey to Washington, DC in 1984. If the Chinese are clever, they’ll give Blinken the same treatment. Will they?
